(coming soon) Silk haori kimono jacket, coral red shibori, unworn, chrysanthemum bamboo print inside, Shōwa period
I work through my finds in small batches as each piece takes time to research, photograph and write properly. But some items are too good to sit invisible in the backlog, and if you have been looking for a vintage shibori silk haori kimono jacket, I want you to know this one exists.
This is a Shōwa-era haori in a heavy coral red silk, dyed using shibori resist technique in two layers: a fine dense ground texture throughout, and a larger square diamond pattern in deeper red over it. The lining is printed silk, cream with bamboo stems and large chrysanthemum flowers in salmon and coral, much more considered than most linings of the period. The basting stitches are still in place. This garment has never been worn.
