Urushi lacquer hako box with maki-e (蒔絵) cherry blossom decoration in soft pink, ivory and gold on deep black lacquer. The sakura branches on the lid are built up in relief through multiple lacquer layers, the gold still shimmering, the black still glossy. Interior in black lacquer. Red maker's seal on the lid. Shōwa period, ca. 1940s to 1980s. Dimensions: approx. 10.5 x 7 x 4 cm. Very light surface wear consistent with age, lacquer intact with original lustre.
