I work through my finds in small batches as each piece takes time to research, photograph and write properly. But some items are too good to sit invisible in the backlog, and if you have been looking for a large signed Tsuchiyu kokeshi, I want you to know this one exists.

This kokeshi was made by Abe Kazue, a Tsuchiyu-style maker from Fukushima known for his distinctive long-nose brushwork and bold red and black banding. At 37.5 cm it is a substantial piece — signed on the base, Shōwa period, 1970s.
